I am a Spanish Teacher and a Kountze ISD teacher since 1983 with experience at all levels. I received my Masters Degree from Lamar University and my Bachelors from the University of Houston. I am committed to Service Learning through community involvement. I have served as Past President of the Big Thicket Association and am active in the Thicket of Diversity in partnership with the Big Thicket National Preserve. I serve as Treasurer of the Big Thicket Natural Heritage Trust and am a Charter member of the Friends of the Kountze Public Library. I am a successful grant writer and enjoy writing in general. As a supporter of the arts, I served as Past President of the Beaumont Ballet Theatre under the Artistic Direction of Miss Bonnie Cokinos. I am a recipient of Reaud Excellence in Education Award 2010 and Mirabeau B. Lamar Education Award- Pine Lodge #642. I have been married 40 years plus to Rick Michael Johnston and am a proud mother of four with six wonderful grandchildren. I absolutely love to travel!
I am proud of my Costa Rican heritage. My mother, Aida Cordero Dyer, immigrated here as a foreign exchange student. She was Goosecreek’s first bilingual teacher and taught for 32 years. I expect to have an exciting and challenging year as we integrate technology instruction with Spanish through Distance Learning and am honored to have worked with Kountze ISD for over 30 years.
