Parents, Guardians, and Students:

Due to COVID-19 related school closures, we will be providing Flexible Education Program services online for the forseeable future.

If you DO NOT have reliable access to the internet at home, you may click here to access downloadable/printable assignments for your art class.

However, if you DO have reliable internet access at home, please access these same assignments via Google Classroom and remember to check your email frequently.

Please understand that this is a unprecedented situation and the district is working through options and assessing new information as it becomes available. We appreciate your patience and cooperation during this difficult time.

Visit the KISD and KHS webpage and Facebook page for more information.

Please visit your Google Classroom page for information and assignments related to your art course. Remember to check your school email frequently.

I cannot overstate the importance of you understanding that this closure should NOT be interpreted as a holiday break from school. Unlike short term/temporary closures due to natural disasters such as ice storms, flooding, hurricanes, etc., there is the chance that we will be conducting educational services electronically for an extended period of time. Therefore, the expectations are different.

Although they may look different from what we typically do in art class, you will still be required to complete assignments, take tests, and submit assignments for grades. Yes, this will be difficult, but we will make it through it. Stay optimistic. Be safe. Please email me if you have questions.

I encourage prospective art students to review my philosophy on my art class and curriculum. If any of the following is a problem for you, you might reconsider your decision to enroll in art.

  • you like to work...hard. – You must if you want to pass and/or become a better artist.

  • you like to follow directions. – This is a necessity for learning proper techniques and ensuring the success of your work.

  • you like to be creative and experiment. Not everything will work out the first time you try it. That's okay! But do not waste too much of your time and talent on reproducing other people's ideas and work. Be INSPIRED rather than imitative whenever possible.

  • you understand effort is often more important than skill. – Many successful artists are successful because of their work ethic, not because critics immediately liked their artworks.

  • you do not think art class will be an easy A. – YOU EARN YOUR GRADES. THEY ARE NOT GIVEN. For more on this topic, you should check out this article from the Student Art Guide which outlines some of the main reasons students do poorly in art class.
